The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library invites the public to a Poetry and Open Mic Night on Friday, March 15, 2019, from 6-8 p.m. The night’s featured guest and emcee will be author and poet Julieta Corpus. The library is located at 1906 S. Closner Blvd. right across from the historic Echo Hotel.
Julieta Corpus began her writing journey at the age of 11. Since then, she’s graduated from the University of Texas, Pan American where she earned a bachelor’s in interdisciplinary studies and, later, a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. Her work has been featured in magazines and publications such as Gallery, Tendiendo Puentes, Mesquite Review and others. In 2013, local musician Mario Mora invited her to produce a compact disc titled: Corazon Parlant and in 2017 one of her poems was included in Solamente in San Miguel Vlume III in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato. Julieta keeps herself very busy organizing poetry readings around the Valley and is an active member and participant of the Rio Grande Valley Poetry Festival and the San Benito Writers Forum.
Other poets and writers featured throughout the night include Marjorie Anne Estevis, Nely Gonzalez, Mark Espinoza, Anthony Ripp, Rolando Serna, Marlene Guerrero, Diana Elizondo, and Martha Alicia Pavon. Also, Manny Carrizales and Isai Charles will be playing music throughout the evening.
If you’re looking to read your own poetry, there is no pre-registration required. The night will also feature an open mic following the featured poets. So invite a friend, relax and enjoy this special poetry event. Not only will it be entertaining, you can also meet people with a shared interest of writing and sharing poetry.
