After losing the 31-6A opener to Vela, North has responded with a pair of successes, over Donna North and EHS. Both came in straight sets and the latter, accomplished Saturday afternoon, was a huge road win.

North claimed the first set, 25-23 and then came a marathon second one, with the visitor up 30-28 at the close. Coach Raul McCallum’s gals then finished off a bitter rival easily, 25-14. Natalie Rodriguez led the way with 15 kills while Evana Ramos was tops in digs, Jessica Dreyer in assists.

The Lady Bobcats (1-1) had beaten Weslaco East in their initial league try, Tuesday, as Victoria Fuentes was active in all defensive phases, Adriana Guerra dug well, and Kristen Salinas had a workmanlike evening.

The other weekend action fell victim to the weather as Econ and Vela were postponed until Monday, the Lady Jags to be at home against Donna North and the Lady Sabes on the road at Weslaco. Econ then turns around to take on EHS on the road Tuesday. North hosts East Tuesday.

North heads into the final non-district week at 0-3 and will take on Edcouch-Elsa (0-3) on the road before beginning 31-6A action against Vela Sept. 28. The Cougars went down against McAllen Rowe Friday, 27-6.

EHS moved to 3-0 with a road victory at La Joya, beating Juarez-Lincoln, 22-13, and will face Mercedes (1-2) this week before the league opener Oct. 4 at Weslaco East. The Bobcats are idle next week in preps for the battle against the Wildcats.

The other 31-6A lid-lifter will see Econ against Weslaco, as the Jags look to keep the roll going against the Panthers, coached by former Vela head man Michael Salinas.
