In efforts to ensure that Edinburg Public Housing youth residents are prepared with the necessary school materials for the 2018-2019 school year, the Edinburg Housing Authority held its annual Back-to-School Drive.
The agency was able to distribute more than 500 backpacks amongst their five EHA Public Housing developments, thanks to donators: State Representative Terry Canales, A Vision for you, AT&T, Vista Dental and many more.
Special guests, Mayor Richard R. Molina, State Representative Terry Canales, Alex Rios, JJ Rodriguez, AT&T Representatives JD Salinas and Cruz Najera, Mayor Pro-Tem David Torres, Council Member Gilbert Enriquez, ECISD School Trustee Ms. Ellie Torres, Ms. Letty Garcia, Officer Adan Moreno, Edinburg Housing Authority Board members: Chairman Dr. Martin Castillo, Vice-Chairman Gabriel Salinas, Commissioner Marissa Chavana, Commissioner Simon Garza and Executive-Director Rodolfo “Rudy” Ramirez amongst others were part of the Back-to-School event and helped distribute backpacks to the children.
The children received backpacks full of school materials. With the agency’s participation in the Book Rich Environment (BRE) the boys and girls also acquired a free book to encourage literacy amongst the youth residents.
“Having the necessary materials is paramount to succeeding and getting a proper education and when the community comes together there is no reason why any child should not have what they need when they start school,” State Representative Terry Canales said.
Thanks to the community’s contributions in supporting this great cause, the Edinburg Public Housing youth residents will be prepared for this upcoming school year. The agency will continue this wonderful tradition that will help future young youth resident.
