Candidate filing period begins in July

South Texas Independent School District (STISD) will conduct school board member elections on Nov. 6.

In Hidalgo County, elections for Commissioner’s Precinct 2 and Commissioner’s Precinct 4 positions will be held on that date.

The application for a place on the ballot is available at the STISD Central Office, located at 100 Med High Drive in Mercedes (Mile 2 West and Expwy. 83). Office hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, through Aug. 3, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays, starting Aug. 6.

The first day to file for a place on the ballot will be Saturday, July 21. The last day to file for a place on the ballot will be Monday, Aug. 20, at 5 p.m.

All persons desiring to vote in the election may cast their votes in the general elections for school board on Nov. 6, at the designated polling places for Hidalgo County Commissioner Precinct 2 and Precinct 4. Early voting by personal appearance begins on Oct. 22 and ends on Nov. 2.

South Texas Independent School District (STISD) serves 7th-12th-grade students from Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy Counties. The open-enrollment public school district consists of two middle schools and four high schools spread out across the Rio Grande Valley.
