EDINBURG - Economedes High School Seniors, Julissa Lara and Kyle Marroquin, signed their National Letter of Intents today for track and field. Julissa will further her education on a Track and Field scholarship at Waldorf University in Iowa and Kyle will run track at the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV). Amongst them was several of their peers, teammates, coaches, and family members, all watching as they committed to become student-athletes at their future schools this coming fall.
“I’m very excited for him [Kyle].” said boys track head coach, Brandon Solis. “I think he has a bright future in college and I hope he does well.”
Kyle was named “one of the best hurdler’s in the Valley this past year,” qualified for regionals in two different regions, and holds some of the school’s records. Meanwhile, Julissa is the school’s fourth signee for girl’s track and helped the team earn points for District and City Champs, especially through pole vaulting.
“I’m ecstatic.” said Brenda Lozano, head coach for girl’s track. “We couldn’t have done all this without her.”
Before signing, Kyle and Julissa took the time to stand before the crowd in front of them and say a few words. They thanked their parents, teammates, and coaches for the continuous support that got them to where they are today.
