Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) announced that the McAllen Vet Center Mobile Unit will be stationed at the Edinburg Conference Center for three days, starting today. The congressman encourages all U.S. military veterans in the 15th District of Texas to utilize Vet Center services as well as Valley Metro’s free rides for veterans offered for the entirety of 2018. The Mobile Vet Center (MVC) will be open for business during the hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. CST, from April 26 – April 28, 2018, at the Edinburg Conference Center, 118 Paseo del Prado, Edinburg, Texas 78539.

Vet Center mobile units are designed to provide veterans with assistance when dealing with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD); individual, marriage, family counseling; Military Sexual Trauma (MST) support; and suicide prevention.

“We must do more to make mental health services more accessible for the men and women who have served this country,” Congressman Gonzalez said. “I applaud the efforts of the Doctors Hospital at Renaissance, the Texas Veterans Commission, and local veterans centers for taking the initiative to address veterans mental health issues.”

Valley Metro provides transportation services to urbanized and non-urbanized areas throughout the Lower Rio Grande Valley counties of Hidalgo, Cameron, Willacy, Starr, and Zapata. Free fares will continue to provide veterans with accessible and timely transportation so that they may travel to and from appointments without incurring any type of financial burden.

Congressman Gonzalez has been a staunch advocate for expanding access to and improving the quality of veterans services. The congressman looks forward to seeing the MVC provide mental health assistance to veterans across the 15th District of Texas and is pleased to see Valley Metro offer accessible transportation free of charge.
