Unofficial results give Richard Molina more than 4,500 votes

EDINBURG – As the unofficial early voting results were posted online by Hidalgo county former city councilman Richard Molina led the way with more than 55 percent of the vote.

With all precincts reporting within the city limit Molina became the new mayor of Edinburg with almost 54 percent of the 8,420 votes. Incumbent Richard H. Garcia pulled in 3,278 votes while Gina Alamia received 624 votes.

The other two elections for the city council saw Jorge “Coach” Salinas and Gilbert Enriquez pick up recently vacated seats. Salinas won with 50.15 percent of votes and Enriquez with 54.45 percent of votes. Both candidates picked up a little more than 4,000 votes.

Richard Garcia, Richard Gonzales and Roland Villarreal all ran on the Edinburg United ticket.
