SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Lady Vaqueros are getting another shot at the Odem Owls.

The two small school South Texas basketball powerhouses are going head-to-head in the Class 3A regional quarterfinals at Woodsboro High School at 6 p.m. Tuesday. On the line is a trip to the Class 3A, Region IV tournament.

San Diego earned its spot in the quarterfinals with a convincing win over Bishop. San Diego carried a four-point lead into halftime and then outscored Bishop by nine in the second half to win the Class 3A area playoff game, 47-34, Thursday night at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. Leanna Vela led the team in scoring with 13. Leandra Bazan had 11 and Marley Martinez had 10.

The Lady Vaqueros beat Taft in the bi-district round of the playoffs Monday.

Odem advanced to the quarterfinals with a blowout victory against Santa Maria Friday night in Alice. The Lady Owls won the playoff game, 64-26. They won a bi-district championship by beating Dilley, 83-34.

San Diego and Odem are no strangers on the basketball court. Odem knocked San Diego out of the postseason in the quarterfinal round last year, 44-42. Odem also beat San Diego, 62-47, in a non-district game in December.

The Lady Owls are 29-5 for the season. San Diego is 29-7.
