Brownwood improves to 7-2 on the season

EASTLAND — Coming off a third-place performance at the Dublin tournament over the weekend, the Brownwood Lions continued their solid start to the season with a 65-44 road victory over the Eastland Mavericks Tuesday night.

The Lions (7-2) trailed 10-9 after one quarter but surged in front 28-24 at halftime, and took a 52-30 advantage into the fourth period.

“We had a bad first quarter, we weren’t prepared at all,” said Lions head coach Nadir Dalleh, “but our post game came up huge in the second half. I was proud of how our guys responded coming out of the half. We had a huge third quarter because of it.”

A.J. McCarty scored a team-high 18 points for Brownwood trailed by 10 from Xavier Porter, eight each from Sean Yoder and Gavon Clemons, five from Gavin Jefferson, four apiece from Zach Strong and Isyah Campos, three each from Jaten Reeves and Blake Bronniman and two points from Blaize Infinger.

The Lions are scheduled to take part in the Hamilton tournament Thursday through Saturday.
