Regarding the story in Lubbock Avalanche-Journal about the recent leaks of photos containing social media conversations about immigration and race by the IFC president (Texas Tech, Interfraternity Council condemn ‘reprehensible language’ in ‘Frat Chat’ posts, June 22, www.lubbockonline.com), this was appalling to me.

As a member of an IFC organization, I will not stand for this kind of slander and derogatory messages being sent by our president, regardless of the context and situation.

I am deeply saddened and feel for the people who were hurt by these actions.

Regardless of race, gender, religion, or country of origin, every person is entitled to be treated with respect and dignity.

I am calling for the immediate resignation of the president of the Texas Tech Interfraternity Council. I believe I speak for the hundreds of men who follow his guidance that these actions and words have proven he is not fit for the post of president. I would like to apologize, on behalf of all members of Texas Tech IFC, to every man, woman, or child who was hurt by this message.

John Martin
