EDINBURG – Jose Castaneda, 72, died Monday, December 12, 2016, at his residence in Edinburg.
Born in McAllen, Mr. Castaneda had lived in Edinburg most of his life. He was a great husband, father and a wonderful grandfather. Mr. Castaneda was a Mission firefighter and proudly served the United States Navy.
Mr. Castaneda is survived by his wife, Noelia Castaneda of Edinburg; five sons, Joe (Glory) Castaneda, Javier (Elena) Castaneda, both of Germen Town, Maryland, Frank (Stacey) Elizondo of Spring, Texas, Jerry (Velma) Castaneda of Mission, Joel (Abigail) Castaneda of San Antonio; five daughters, Velma Castaneda, Sonia Castaneda, Cristela Elizondo , all of San Antonio, Eliza (Ricardo) Cristan, Norma (Heriberto Gloria) Elizondo, both of Edinburg; 21 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service today, December 14, 2016, at Memorial Funeral Home, 208 E. Canton in Edinburg. Funeral service will take place at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, December 15, 2016, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.
