EDINBURG – The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District recently recognized its Curriculum and Instruction Department for its outstanding achievement in earning a grade of an “A” on the newest academic accountability ratings.

“The Curriculum and Instruction Department is the heart of our award-winning school district,” ECISD Superintendent Dr. René Gutiérrez said. “I am incredibly proud of the team and all that they have achieved to inspire our students, teachers, staff and school community.”

The Curriculum and Instruction Department consists of several educational divisions and programs, including special education, bilingual education, area directors, assessments, curriculum specialists, the curriculum for federal programs, career and technical education, and the advanced academic program.

Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction Dahlia Z. Guzman, who oversees the department, praised her staff’s hard work in educating our students.

“Edinburg CISD has a long standing reputation of recruiting and retaining great educators, who are committed to providing students with every opportunity to be college, career and military ready when they graduate,” Guzman said. “We have already earned several regional, state and national academic achievements and the school year has just begun.”

Edinburg CISD received a grade of an “A” on the newest academic accountability ratings based on an A-through-F scale.

According to the Texas Education Agency, 153 school districts and district charters achieved an “A” rating under the 2018 A-F state accountability system, which ranked Edinburg CISD in the top 5-percent of the districts in the state.

Additionally, Edinburg CISD achieved the postsecondary readiness distinction for the second consecutive year.

ECISD was one of only 61 school districts and district charters across the state that received a distinction designation for postsecondary readiness as part of the 2018 state accountability rating. The postsecondary readiness distinction is the only distinction designation at the district level under the state accountability system.

All Edinburg CISD schools achieved a Met Standard rating and 11 of those campuses also earned all possible distinction designations in the 2018 state accountability ratings.

Overall, the district received a total of 170 distinction designations as part of the 2018 state accountability rating.
