One person is dead after a Thursday morning crash in a West Lubbock parking lot.

Just after 6 a.m., police responded to the parking lot of Costco located at 6020 34th St. after reports of an SUV that struck a light pole, said LPD spokeswoman Tiffany Taylor.

The driver, 72-year-old William Hill, was taken to University Medical Center with serious injuries. Hill was later pronounced dead at the hospital, and he was the only occupant of the SUV.

LPD Crash Investigators from the traffic unit were called to the scene, and Taylor said they were mapping out the area and investigating to determine the cause of the crash.

The crash remained under investigation Thursday.
