As the holidays approach, residents across the area are beginning to schedule their family photo sessions, a luxury not everyone can afford.

Enter the Humble Lens Project.

Local photographers have come together to volunteer their services to six families in need.

The chosen families will enjoy a one-hour, complimentary photo session at the beginning of December for their immediate family that includes print and digital photos.

Sara Battenfield with Southern Grace Photography started the project.

“We are asking the community to email us nominations and tell us why they think this family should be chosen,” Battenfield said. “For privacy reasons please do not tag or name nominees in the comments of any of our social media posts. There must be a financial or medical hardship for the family to be considered, and all entries will be reviewed and kept confidential.”

Battenfield said the photographers are also working with local businesses to provide the families with a holiday gift basket, which will be presented to them during the photo session.

“We are excited to be able to do this,” Battenfield said. “Last year my family and I went through a really rough time and had to make some cuts so I know what it’s like. To a lot of people, pictures aren’t the most important thing, but it’s something we can do for these families.”

Other local companies participating in the project include Kimmie McKinney Photography, CJ Photography, Picnut Photos, Stefani Adams Photography and by faith fotography.
