The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library invites the public to a Poetry and Open Mic Night on Tuesday, August 14 from 6-8 p.m. The night’s featured guest and emcee will be author and poet Julieta Corpus.

Julieta Corpus began her writing journey at the age of 11. Since then, she’s graduated from the University of Texas, Pan American where she earned a bachelor’s in interdisciplinary studies and, later, a Masters of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. Her work was featured in magazines and publications such as Gallery, Tendiendo Puentes, and Mesquite Review. She organizes poetry readings around the Valley and is an active member and participant of the Rio Grande Valley Poetry Festival and the San Benito Writers Forum.

Other poets and writers featured throughout the night include Mcallen Poet Laureate, Edward Vidaurre, Marjorie Anne Estevis,  Richard Sanchez, Manny Carrizales, Anthony Ripp, Monica Ramirez, Amador Salazar, Jasmin Garcia, Celina Gomez, Nely Gonzalez, Rolando Serna, Blanka Reyes and Ronnie Garza.

If you’re looking to read your own poetry, there is no pre-registration required. The night will also feature an open mic following the featured poets. So invite a friend, relax and enjoy this special poetry event. Not only will it be entertaining, you can also meet people with a shared interest of writing and sharing poetry.
