EDINBURG – The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved the district’s open enrollment policy and procedures at a special called meeting on July 25.

“Edinburg CISD is now an open enrollment school district just like our surrounding districts in Hidalgo County,” ECISD Superintendent Dr. René Gutiérrez said. “We already have open enrollment for anyone that works in the Edinburg CISD community, but we went ahead and took it a step further now to open it up to any child in the surrounding areas that wants to come to Edinburg CISD.”

Gutiérrez said that the district is going to establish criteria for parents who want to enroll their children into Edinburg CISD. It is a very short process. Interested parents are asked to contact Assistant Superintendent of Support Services Dr. Mario Salinas at (956) 289-2300.

“The sooner parents start, the better. We are just around the corner from the start of the new school year,” Gutiérrez said. “We invite all parents from the surrounding areas to consider Edinburg CISD, because we have a lot of great schools, a lot of great programs and offer a quality education.”

All ECISD elementary, middle and high schools met the 2018 Texas Education Agency’s State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) performance standards. For the third consecutive year, the district’s elementary schools exceeded the state in all STAAR testing levels. This year, the elementary schools also surpassed Region One testing levels.

Edinburg CISD has received the greatest number of consecutive National Blue Ribbon School honors in all of South Texas. Four elementary schools earned the National Blue Ribbon School honors in 2016 and 2017. Additionally, two elementary schools were nominated for 2018.
