Educators and their families are invited to join the Edinburg Scenic Wetlands and World Birding Center (EWBC) for some fun family programming during Educator Days and a chance to learn how to connect young learners to the outdoors in a Project WILD and Aquatic WILD Combination workshop.
Teachers, join the EWBC on Friday, August 3, for the first day of Educator Days. Learn about the programs the EWBC can offer your students during the upcoming school year. During this free program, teachers will sample activities and have the opportunity to earn TEEAC credit. Programming for kinder through 6th grade teachers runs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and for 7th through 12th grade teachers from 2 – 5 p.m. Registration is required for these programs.
On Saturday, August 4, teachers and their families are invited to the EWBC for a day of family fun. From 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., teachers and their families can enjoy fun activities, raffle prizes, store coupons, snacks and drinks. This program is free for educators and their families. Teachers, please bring your school identification for free entry.
A Project WILD and Aquatic WILD combination workshop will be held on Thursday, August 9, from 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Friday, August 10, from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. This combination workshop will provide educators with ideas, tools, and resources for grades K-12, and will focus on how to teach young people about terrestrial and aquatic wildlife and ecosystems using fun, hands-on, educational activities.
During the ten-hour training workshop, participants will sample activities and receive both curriculum guides. Activities are adaptable for all grade levels, integrated with core subject curricula and aligned to the TEKS. Participating teachers will receive TEEAC continuing education credit. Informal educators, teachers, youth group leaders, community volunteers and all other enthusiastic educators are encouraged to register. All participants must attend both days to receive the WILD materials.
The fee for the workshop is $65 per participant. Fee includes lunch on Thursday and snacks on Friday. Limited partial scholarships are available. Space is limited, so registration is required by August 4.
