An abandoned house suffered extensive damages and was ruled a total loss after a Friday afternoon blaze, according to the Amarillo Fire Department.

At 12:44 p.m., firefighters responded to a structure fire at 1423 NW 12th Ave. Crews arrived at the scene within four minutes and found a single-story residence fully involved with heavy fire, the department stated.

A second alarm was automatically sent because of the amount of fire and windy conditions. The fire was declared under control at 1:13 p.m. but remained at the scene for an extended period of time finding hidden fires and putting out hot spots, AFD stated.

Neighbors in the area reported that the house had been abandoned for some time, according to the department.

The Amarillo Fire Marshal's Office responded, but due to the extensive damage of the structure, could not determine a cause of the fire. A significant portion of the house collapsed during the blaze, so damages were ruled as a total loss, according to AFD.
