If you are a veteran in need of important legal services, particularly those related to child support, then Metroplex Veterans Legal Services, a legal nonprofit based out of Dallas, is here to help.

This Friday, June 22, MVLS will be offering a legal clinic, free of charge. The clinic, in partnership with the Attorney General of Texas' Child Support Division HEROES program, will seek to provide active duty service members, veterans, and their dependents with the tools necessary to fully, and effectively, address any concerns or issues that they may have with child support related matters.

According to a Former Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Eric K. Shinseki, in an MVLS news release, “legal issues account for four of the ten unmet needs of homeless veterans.”  Aware of this salient fact, MVLS is offering this clinic as a part of a wider program to combat problems that a lack of access to adequate legal assistance can cause for low income and at-risk veterans.

Four of the most common causes of legal trouble among veterans are: Driver's license issues caused by tickets; child support modification; expunction of criminal arrests; and combat related special compensation. MVLS, through their clinics, are able to assist veterans in three of these areas by: helping with child support modification, restoring driver’s licenses, and providing legal assistance for warrants and fines.

If you are interested in receiving the help with child support modification that MVLS is offering at this Friday’s clinic, register online at gulfcoast.veteranslegalservices.us. You must take your DD Form 214 or V.A. ID Card and your child support order with you to the clinic in order to receive assistance.

The clinic will be held on June 22, 2018, at 1:00 pm, at Goodwill Industries of South Texas, Inc.  The address is 3502 S. I-69C, Edinburg, TX 78539.  The Veterans and active duty servicemembers must register online in advance of the clinic at gulfcoast.veteranslegalservices.us.
