Over 28,800 U.S. public high schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia were analyzed for the 2018 Best High Schools rankings. According to the magazine, the U.S. News team teamed up with North Carolina-based RTI International, a global nonprofit social science research firm, to compile the list, implementing a “comprehensive rankings methodology, which is based on these key principles: that a great high school must serve all of its students well, not just those who are college bound, and that it must be able to produce measurable academic outcomes to show it is successfully educating its student body across a range of performance indicators.” The full methodology is available at the following link: https://www.usnews.com/education/best-high-schools/articles/how-us-news-calculated-the-rankings.

STISD is comprised of four magnet high schools – South Texas Business, Education & Technology Academy (BETA), South Texas High School for Health Professions (Med High), South Texas Academy for Medical Professions (Medical Academy), and The Science Academy of South Texas (Sci Tech) – as well as two middle schools – Rising Scholars Academy of South Texas (Rising Scholars) and South Texas Preparatory Academy (STPA). All campuses are tuition-free and serve students from Cameron, Hidalgo and Willacy Counties. For more information, call 1-800-21STUDY or visit www.stisd.net.
