SAN JUAN – Hidalgo County Precinct 2 Commissioner Eduardo “Eddie” Cantu hosted an Earth Day 3k to celebrate the new QR FIT Trail located at the San Juan Community Resource Center on 509 E. Earling Road.
Dozens of participants joined the mid-morning event that began with a Zumba class warm up and ended with the 3k walk/run. Throughout the course, the participants were able to stop at the QR FIT stations and experience the multimedia exercise trail that’s meant to enhance the quality of life and health of neighboring residents.
“This is the first trail of its kind south of San Antonio,” said Cantu. “Just scan the QR code at each station and an instructional will lead the user through various exercises as they go through the trail.”
Cantu thanked the Hidalgo County Health & Human Services Department, the Boys and Girls Club, and the Master Gardeners with Texas A&M for being their partners and providing the community with healthy and educational alternatives to improve lifestyle choices.
“We’re lucky to work with great organizations and partner with others who share our same goal,” said Cantu.
