If you want to learn how information interaction influences behavior and decisions, then The Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library has a presentation you don’t want to miss. Make plans to attend the upcoming Scholars for Life lecture and presentation entitled, America’s Media Panic: “Whose News?” on Thursday, February 22, from 6-8 p.m. The event is free, and everyone is welcome.
The Sekula Memorial Library is partnering with Dr. Lee Basham, Philosophy Professor at South Texas College, to host this lecture that promises to be very informative. Dr. Basham says, he wants to “provide the community with information about Social Epistemology and Mainstream media’s means and attitudes to control, deflect and dismiss alternative explanations for important events, and when they rather do the opposite, too.”
Dr. Basham has a Ph.D. in Philosophy, specializing in Metaphysics and Epistemology. He is a professor of philosophy at South Texas College and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. He is also an author of some professional articles and book chapters on issues surrounding public information in democracies and the nature of contemporary conspiracy theories.
The Scholars For Life Series encourages library partnerships with local educational institutions by providing access to lifelong learning through lectures and presentations that enhance lives and the Rio Grande Valley community.
These monthly lectures and presentations will be held from February through May, free of charge. For more information, call (956) 383-6246 or visit http://www.edinburg.lib.tx.us/.
