While it wasn’t like the heavy blanketing which covered South Texas on Christmas Eve 2004, parts of the Coastal Bend, including Alice, did experience snow.

The overnight snow measured about two inches in some parts of the city.

Other parts of the region like Beeville, Freer, Cotulla and George West reported snow fall late Thursday, however, in Alice, the snow, which for most of the night was more of a “wintery mix” of snow, sleet and rain, didn’t begin to fall until about 1 a.m. Friday. It continued to fall throughout the early morning hours before turning into snow at about 4:30 a.m.

It collected on the ground and on vehicles. Many residents could be seen outside watching the rare weather.

The temperature overnight dipped down to 32 degrees in the city.

Temperatures during the day Friday were supposed to reach the mid-50s. The rest of the week should remain colder than normal with daytime highs reaching the 60s. Night-time lows are expected to reach the lower 40s.
