EDINBURG – Approximately 130 qualifying migrant students from all four of Edinburg CISD’s high schools recently participated in the Migrant Senior College Readiness Workshop at UTRGV. During the event, the students learned about college deadlines and tips on how they can begin to prepare for a higher education.
The main focus of the program is getting the seniors to discover the different College Assistance Migrant Program (CAMP) opportunities available to them from the universities that attend the workshop. High school migrant counselors said that the workshop helps their students make important decisions for the next chapter of their lives.
“Our students that attend the workshop are able to speak one on one with CAMP recruiters and this helps them decide if the university is the right fit for them,” said Edinburg High School Migrant Counselor Roberto Garcia.
The annual workshop concluded with a college fair, which provided additional information for the migrant students.
