CEDAR HILL — It was close throughout, but the Red Oak Lady Hawks just had a few too many attacking options for the Midlothian Lady Panthers to stop Tuesday night at Cedar Hill High School.
The volleyball season came to an end for the Lady Panthers in the 5A Region II Quarterfinals after a three-set sweep by Red Oak, 25-23, 26-24, 25-19.
“We are losing a lot and it is going to be hard to replace these kids,” said an emotional Teresa Dunn, who just completed her first season as the head coach of the Lady Panthers. “With our younger kids in our program, we do have a lot of good things coming. The spring will be big. We are going to really have to grow and mature. We are going to get our hands on the ball a lot and it is going to be all right.”
The Panthers finished the season with 30 wins to 14 losses, which included a 10-4 record in District 10-5A. The top four teams in the district — Red Oak, Lake Ridge, Midlothian and Waxahachie, all advanced to the regional quarterfinals with Red Oak and Waxahachie moving on to the 5A Region II tournament.
The Lady Indians play Lucas Lovejoy on Friday at Berkner High School in Richardson at 5 p.m. and the Lady Hawks follow against Prosper. The winner will play Saturday at 2 p.m.
