EDINBURG – Organizers and contestants of the Miss Edinburg Scholarship Pageant recently donated more than 300 bags filled with school supplies to students at Edinburg CISD.
The organization hosted a fashion show to raise money to purchase the school supplies, which included markers, notebooks, pencils and crayons.
The donations were distributed by 2017 Little Miss RGV Kassi Rodriguez, who is a fourth-grade student at Trevino Elementary School and 2017 Miss Edinburg Lexi Esparza, who is a graduate of Vela High School and currently attending UTRGV.
Elite RGV Productions Director Minerva Olivarez, who coordinated the event, said that gathering all of these items is very important to the contestants and is part of the organization’s mission.
“We get our girls involved in fundraising and in the community, because there’s so much need here,” Olivarez said. “I think it’s important for the girls. Hopefully, when they get older and they have children, they will be teaching that to their own kids.”
