The City of Edinburg is proud to announce that the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library is the recipient of the Texas Book Festival Library Collection Enhancement Grant. The grant enables libraries to enhance specified collections while providing a diverse and growing catalog of literature to their communities.
Since its inauguration in 1995, the Texas Book Festival has provided funding to promote literacy and assist Texas libraries in encouraging the love of reading. The funds raised at the annual Texas Book Festival and donations from generous donors go toward grants which are then distributed the following year. This year, the Texas Book Festival awarded more than $100,000 in grants that were divided among 44 selected libraries.
Thanks to this grant, the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library was able to grow its children’s collection to include titles from a list put together by the Association for Library Services to Children (ALSC), a branch of the American Library Association. The books on the list promote the message of creating unity, acting with kindness toward others, and promoting peace. Titles such as All You Need is Love: Celebrating Families of all Shapes and Sizes by Shanni Collins, A Bedtime Prayer for Peace by Akila Dada, and Tiny Thoughts of Kindness: Treating Others with Love and Kindness by Agnes De Bezenac.
