American Ballet Theatre (ABT) Curriculum Certified faculty members from the Dancentre of Edinburg guided Club members through a fun activity-based movement class designed to introduce them to the art form of classical ballet. The class was held at Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV and included:

•           A Video Introduction: “A Day In the Life of Misty Copeland”

•           Introduction to Ballet: warm-ups, stretches, and movement

•           Wrap-Up with Q & A and gift bags for Club members

Three (3) Club members were selected to receive a full year scholarship to attend Dancentre of Edinburg classes.  As a result, they will be able to participate in the production of Peter and the Wolf, the Nutcracker and other spring shows.  The scholarships are courtesy of American Ballet Theatre (ABT) and Dancentre of Edinburg.

American Ballet Theatre and Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) launched a partnership in 2014 to introduce children to classical ballet through a master class series at BGCA locations across the country. In 2014, over 600 students participated, in 2015 over 800 children participated, and in 2016, 991 students participated nationwide.  From these master classes talented children with the natural ability and desire to dance were awarded with scholarships for ballet training.  Fifteen children were identified for scholarships in 2014, 37 in 2015, and 53 in 2016.  We are very excited to continue exposing children to ballet through this medium again this year.
