EDINBURG – The Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) recently awarded Edinburg CISD’s Memorial Middle School a $5,000 prize as the winners of the student video contest it sponsored. Memorial’s Drama Club students created and starred in the video, which was selected as the top video in its category across the state.

“This school year, TASB sponsored a student video contest designed to give students an opportunity to tell others what makes their schools exceptional, why public schools deserve the support of their communities and state lawmakers, what makes Texas public schools the best choice, and how their school is making a difference in students’ lives and future success,” said Dr. Ralph Cantu, TASB Field Services representative.

The contest was open to all Texas elementary and secondary public school students.

“More than 100 videos were submitted,” Cantu said.  “From those entries, six districts in the state were chosen to receive the first and second prizes awarded in three categories:  elementary, middle school, and high school. The first-place prize of $5,000 goes to Memorial Middle School.”

All entries can be viewed on the TASB Website, which is www.tasb.org.

TASB is a nonprofit association established in 1949 to serve local Texas school boards. School board members are the largest group of publicly elected officials in the state. The districts they represent serve more than 5.3 million public school students.
