EDINBURG – Sunday before the RGVFC Toros play their home opener against the San Antonio FC on a newly laid pitch at H-E-B Park, Michelada Festival 2017 will aim to crown the best michelada.

Restaurants will have the opportunity to compete for cash prizes and bragging rights during the inaugural festival. According to the event's Facebook account restaurants like University Draft House, The Quarter, Sip Lounge, Republic of the Rio Grande and La Michelada to name a few have already signed up.

Tickets for the festival will cost $35 and include tasting of contestant's Micheladas, a souvenir cup and a ticket to the game. The festival will be from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Entry to the contest will cost $300 with a first place prize of $500.

Organizer Alex Rios said this venture will test the waters so to speak for the new venue and also give the community something different to do before enjoying a soccer match.

“We are going to try and do as many as these little things as possible,” he said. “To enjoy, to celebrate our culture, what we like and do it responsibly.”
