EDINBURG – The first 100 people in line for the grand opening of the new Slim Chickens was to receive free chicken for a year.

Naturally the line stretched down the sidewalk last week just before the newest eatery in town opened their doors.

Abdul and his father Jamal Hamideh were scouting for a new location for their new franchise Slim Chickens. While they had searched to which franchise to open after nine successful IHOP locations nothing seem to grasp them until Slim Chickens came up. After a meeting with company leaders they went for it.

“We decided we were going to go ahead with Slim Chickens because of the culture of the company,” Abdul said.

Being the owners of their own IHOP they know the owner of the IHOP in town. Abdul came down from Houston to visit him and he noticed the people in Valley were so great they decided it would be a no-brainer.

Abdul said as new customer looking to try their products go with the 3-and-3 which gives you three wings and three tenders.

“We also have chicken and waffles,” Abdul said. “All of those things are just great items.”

Slim Chickens is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and is located at 2111 W. University Dr.

This year Abdul said they expect to open five more locations in the Rio Grande Valley.
