It’s Time for Edinburg’s 35th Annual 10K

The City of Edinburg will welcome thousands of runners this weekend for the #1 Road Race in the State of Texas. More than six-thousand have already signed up to run the All-America 10K/Fun Run and Miracle Mile Races on Saturday, February 4.

With two days left to register an overwhelming number of runners are gearing up to try their luck at more than $30 thousand awarded in the 10K race. So far, 25 elite runners from around the world and 1,855 running buffs are registered to compete in the 6.2-mile race. The money is awarded in 10 different categories including fastest overall male and female, fastest American male and female, and fastest Edinburg male and female.

As of today, 4500 people are registered to participate in the family-oriented 3.4-mile 5K race and 150 people are registered to participate in the Miracle Mile for children and adults with special needs. The Miracle Mile Race will take place at 8 a.m. inside the Richard R. Flores Stadium. This race consists of four laps around the field.

The 10K Race will start promptly at 9 a.m. on Palm Drive and the Fun Run starts at 11:30 also on Palm Drive. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at the stadium.

The last day to register for all three events is Friday, February 3, at 8 p.m. Runners can register on-line (www.cityofedinburg.com) or in person at the Edinburg Sports & Wellness Center (315 East Palm Drive) where they will also pick up their race packets. A free Health Expo will take place on Friday from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. featuring event sponsors.

Media parking will be available at the Edinburg Sports & Wellness Center with entrance via Freddy Gonzalez and Stadium Drive. As usual, photographers are welcome to ride in the pace vehicle but will have to arrive no later than 8:30 a.m.

8th between Peter/Kuhn

The roads along Closner Boulevard, north of Freddy Gonzalez Drive will re-open immediately after the last 10K runner comes through with only the roads to the south of Freddy remaining closed for the 11:30 a.m. Fun Run. These streets will re-open immediately after the 3.4-mile race.

Due to set up and registration for the races, all Parks & Rec. afterschool and evening programs have been canceled for Friday, Feb. 3 and Saturday, Feb 4.

Meantime, participant and spectator parking is available in areas around the Edinburg Sports &Wellness Center and at the Richard R. Flores Stadium.
