Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV recently hosted the Junior Youth of the Year competition. Junior Youth of the Year was created as a way to prepare club kids ages 9-13 for the most prestigious honor a club kid can receive, the Youth of the Year. Often, kids have great stories to tell, but have difficulty telling them publicly in the Youth of the Year competition. Junior Youth of the Year competitors wrote essays about their home life, their school life, what the club means to them and presented a speech to a panel of judges.
In the end, three youth emerged as finalist: 3rd runner up Angel Luevanos (Sam Risica Unit), 2nd runner up Kassandra ‘Kassie” De La Garza (The Legacy Center) and the 2017 Youth of the Year Gina Garcia (Brewster Unit). Each received a technology gift bag and certificate.
"I absolutely love this event." said Sabrina Walker Hernandez, CEO. "Not only does it prepare our kids for the Youth of the Year competition, but it also help them practice their presentation skills!
Judges in the Youth of the Year Competition included Elias Longoria, Texas Regional Bank; Judi Flowers, Wells Fargo Bank, and Todd Miller, MCISD.
