The EHS Police Officers, in collaboration with EHS PAWS, school organizations, Robert Vela High School, Gorena Elementary, and Harwell Middle School donated over 1,000 toys and personal items to Estrellita’s House. Each year brings more donations of much-needed items for the children whom Estrella’s House helps.
The generosity has continued throughout these four years, giving our students an opportunity to share and give back to the community.
It was a wonderful endeavor at EHS, spearheaded by our Police Officer Valerie Martinez and our campus securities, including Monica Ortiz. Police Chief Rick Perez, joined by the ECISD Police Officers spoke about the importance of giving in this holiday season. Edinburg High School had a presentation of the donations in our front office lobby led by our principal, Mrs. Yesenia T. Molina. She spoke of the great staff and students at our school who made a difference in the recipients’ lives at Estrellita’s House – Hope on The Run project.
Our ceremony was warm with Christmas music by our very own EHS Jazz band, and was well attended by our PAWS Club (sponsor Mrs. L. Prestia), our Bobcat Cheerleaders (Coach Eva Perez), the Lady Bobcat Basketball team (Coach JD Salinas) and Staff from Estrellita’s House. Staff from Estrella’s House received the toys and items and spoke about Estrella’s story.
After the presentation, the EHS and ECISD Police Department K9 Units, including Officers M. Tanamachi, D. Hernandez, J. Alanis, R. Gonzalez, and D. Garcia, loaded the gifts in the police unit vehicles and delivered them to Estrella’s House – with a deserving, respectable procession through the City of Edinburg. Edinburg High School is proud to keep Estrellita’s memory alive by sharing with the project that stands in her legacy.
