This Fall, join the Edinburg Scenic Wetlands and World Birding Center for a variety of great programs sure to expand your knowledge base on our South Texas wildlife. Learn about the intriguing world of ants during this month’s segment of Friday Night with a Naturalist on Friday, Dec. 16 from 6-7 p.m. Or, if birding is your preference, join us as we kick off our Adult Birding Series with the first session titled, “Color to Learn: Bird ID,” on Saturday, Dec. 17 from 9 – 10:30 a.m.
Ants are capable of accomplishing incredible things, despite being so small in size. While a few of the ant species in our area are non-native/invasive, other ant species here are a critical food source to other animals. Come on out and learn about these interesting critters and what you can do to protect the native species that belong in our area. Registration is required. Seats are limited, so call ahead to reserve your spot. The “Friday Night with a Naturalist” Speakers Series is held on the third Friday of the month. Admission is free. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the presentation begins at 6 p.m.
For those interested in learning about birds, join the EWBC for our kick off session of the Adult Birding Series, “Color to Learn,’ where you’ll get to learn the basics of bird ID through coloring. Coloring and even sketching birds can help us pay attention to details in their field marks, making it easier to remember them when identifying a bird. Join us and see if this technique for Bird ID is right for you. The fee for this series varies. Please call ahead for rates. Registration is required. Call ahead to reserve your spot.
