EDINBURG – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) volleyball team learned on Sunday that it will open its first-ever NCAA Tournament at No. 4 Texas on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Gregory Gym.

The winner of that match will face either Texas A&M or SMU on Saturday at 7 p.m.

NCAA Tournament tickets are on sale now. All NCAA Tournament tickets are available either over the phone or in person at the UTRGV Athletics Ticket Office through Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. by contacting UTRGV Assistant Athletic Director for Ticket Operations & Sales David Riggs at (956) 665-3747 or david.riggs@utrgv.edu. After the deadline, any remaining tickets will be sold directly through Texas.

UTRGV already has a win over a Big 12 opponent this season, defeating Baylor 3-1 on Aug. 26.

UTRGV is 2-2 all-time against Texas, including a pair of 2-0 victories on Oct 12 and 20, 1973 in Houston and Austin, respectively. Texas has won the last two meetings, 2-0 in Huntsville on Oct. 15, 1975 and 3-0 in Austin on Aug. 30, 2002.

In the lone previous meeting between UTRGV and Texas A&M, UTRGV fell 0-3 in College Station on Sept. 24, 2000. 

UTRGV is 1-1 all-time against SMU, including a 2-1 victory on Oct. 20, 1973 in Austin and a 0-3 loss on Sept. 25, 1998 in Dallas.
